DRIVING DIRECTIONS

From the Airport

Be sure to stay on the left!

Street names and signs are practically non-existent here, so pay attention to landmarks instead.

Turn right at the light at the end of Airport Road onto Rt. 30–Veteran’s Drive (It’s the main road next to the harbor). Stay on Veteran’s Drive (Rt. 30) for approximately 2 miles or 10 traffic lights.(You will drive under a pedestrian bridge, and pass the Windward Passage Hotel on your left approximately one block before the turn) Pass Nye Gade right after the Windward Passage, and turn left @ the next intersection onto General Gade @ the 11th traffic light. Pass three intersections (including the alleyway after the school) on General Gade and turn left @ the fourth intersection, at the orange colored building on the left side of the street, green building on the right hand side. You will be turning onto a narrow, winding one-way street. Pass a vacant lot on the right, laundromat and small church on your left, and some very old buildings on the right, where you will start up the hill. You can only turn left at the next intersection, the right is a dead end. Stay on this street. Watch out for the speed bump at the next turn (as if you could speed on this route!). Turn right and keep going up the hill past the garage and the Catholic Chanceryon your left. Miller Manor is the next building on your left, at the t-intersection where Rt. 40 turns up the hill to the right. You have the right-of-way through the intersection, because the people coming down the hill have a stop sign, but they don’t always stop. The proper driving etiquette here is to honk your horn lightly to let anyone coming down the hill know that a car is approaching. Look for a parking place on the left or right after the intersection. Pull as far as you can to either side. If you have a cell phone and can call us to let us know you are close, and we can try to direct you to a good spot. Please do not block walkways or driveways.

From Redhook

From the ferry dock in Red Hook, follow the signs to the airport or town (approximately 6 miles) Stay on the harbor drive through town past Yacht Haven Grande on the left, The Greenhouse restaurant on the right to the light @ General Gade. Turn right onto General Gade (USO cage on NW corner—if you get to the Windward Passage Hotel you’ve gone too far). Pass three intersections on General Gade and turn left @ the fourth intersection, right after the orange colored building ( In Town Guesthouse). This is a narrow, winding one-way street. Pass a laundromat and small church on your left, and some very old buildings on the right, where you will start up the hill. You can only turn left at the next intersection, the right is a dead end. Stay on this street. Watch out for the speed bump at the next turn (as if you could speed on this route!). Turn right and keep going up the hill past the garage and the Catholic Chanceryon your left. The next building on your left, at the t-intersection where Rt. 40 turns up the hill to the right, is the Miller Manor. You have the right-of -way through the intersection, because the people coming down the hill have a stop sign, but they don’t always stop. The proper driving etiquette here is to honk your horn lightly to let anyone coming down the hill know that a car is approaching. Look for a parking place on either the left or right after the intersection. Pull as far as you can to either side. If you have a cell phone and can call us to let us know you are close, we can try to direct you to a good spot. Please do not block walkways or driveways.

From the St. John Ferry (Charlotte Amalie)

Many streets are not marked, so landmarks are the best way to give directions. REMEMBER TO LOOK RIGHT FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC! Walk left/West, toward the Windward Passage (big yellow building). The ocean will be on your left. At the third traffic light, turn right/North onto General Gade (sign is above the street, and there is a USO cage on the NW corner). There are two choices from here. If you don’t mind carrying your bag/s up a number of steps, continue on General Gade past two streets. You will pass a school on your left. Immediately after the school, look to your left and you will see a short alley with a large number of steps going up the hill. Go up these steps and continue on this street past the Catholic Chancery on your left. We are the very next building on the left with the white columns at the crest of the hill where Route #40 intersects and continues up the hill. Ring the bell to tell us you are here!

If it’s easier to walk up a steep hill rather than steps, turn left from General Gade onto Main Street and walk West past Frank’s Lock and Key and the carwash. Cross the street at the light. Jala, Jala Nightclub is on the NW corner. Turn north (right) here and walk up the hill to the next street (Prindsesse Gade). Turn right onto this street and walk up the hill (It’s very steep). We are at the top of the hill on the right hand side, where Route #40 intersects and continues up the hill. Ring the bell to tell us you are here!
